The founder and vision behind Johannes Torpe Studios, Danish designer Johannes Torpe is an unconventional creative in every way imaginable. Guided by the belief that we do our best work when we pursue things that move us, Johannes Torpe is an advocate for an unrestrained and intuitive approach to design and life in general.

Johannes left school at the age of 12 to play the drums and is completely self-taught as a creative practitioner. His playful attitude has made him a pioneer in the world of lifestyle, design and immersive branding experiences. For over 20 years he has helped clients worldwide build and strengthen their brands with thought-provoking solutions in concept design, interior design, industrial design and architecture.

Having worked in most areas of the world Johannes’ practice has achieved a universality that speaks for itself. His vast experience and diverse portfolio reveal a fearless approach to the business of design. To him creativity is neither confined to disciplines nor industries. He simply calls himself a design activist, dedicated to telling compelling and authentic stories through creativity and design.

2015 - NIKE Beijing – Office Brand Installations (Lamella Piece)

2015 - Palæo – Healthy Fastfood Restaurant Concept (Counter)

Inspired by the simplicity of the paleo diet and lifestyle we created the interior design and layout and developed an optimised workflow behind the counter. The space was additionally designed as a scalable concept to ensure ease of expansion throughout locations of varying sizes.

2013 - Bang & Olufsen Store Concept – Global Retail Store Design

Drawing on a legacy of innovative and foresighted design, the luxury audio and design brand Bang & Olufsen’s new store design concept was created with the intention of translating the brand’s innate ability to create unexpected and magical user experiences into the overall retail experience.

The shop-in-shop concept for Bang & Olufsen’s sub-brand B&O PLAY was created to capture the essence of the playfulness of the brand, with interaction, accessibility as well as juxtaposing materials being the major focus points of the design.

2012 - South Beauty Taipei – Restaurant Design (Interior)

South Beauty Taipei restaurant fuses traditional Chinese and Taiwanese details with a sense of Scandinavian simplicity while maintaining an elegant and luxurious atmosphere. The kitchen, placed in the centre of the space behind an LED waterfall, stages the food as the central element of the experience.

2010 - Agnes Cupcakes – Cupcake Shop Concept (Interior)

Copenhagen’s first cupcake bakery, Agnes Cupcakes, is created as a fashionable way to shop for your sweet tooth. We developed the brand from the ground up including name, graphic identity, packaging and even the cakes, creating a 360-degree holistically considered concept.

Traditional components of Chinese design sparked the inspiration for the design of the fine-dining restaurant Subu. Fused together with the Scandinavian design style we created a universal aesthetic with strong references to Chinese culture and traditions like the concept of ‘private dining rooms’.

1997 - NASA – Nightclub

The private members club NASA was designed as a futuristic ode to Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. It is kept in a strictly white colour scheme, with consistently soft, organic shapes. Every detail was designed especially for this club, from the ashtrays to the doors.
